B-ball Cheap Shot

James has been playing on a city league basketball team with my brother Matt this summer, and it's been entertaining and quite surprising I might add. They had their first game the day after we drove here from Utah, and sadly they lost. The next week they lost again. I was glad Matt and James could play ball together, but it wasn't looking very good for the season. Their team is called the Usetobees and it's made of mostly fathers who fill the stands with a kids' cheering section. Most of the other teams are made up of younger guys--even one that is all guys right out of high school with matching uniforms. Well, something got into these Usetobees and they started winning! There were some close games, and one that really fired me up that was against the high school team. I have to say it felt pretty good to beat them. I'm sure their team was surprised when we kicked them out of first place. Pretty amazing.
The last game they played was against one of the lower teams, and we were about 20 points ahead. There was a fast break and James was down at the other end ready to score, but for some reason a guy from the other team (I guess I should give him the benefit of the doubt and call it lack of skill) took James's legs out from under him and made him fall on his back. From my point of view, it looked like James fell on his arm and I was scared he broke it when he had already broken each of his arms before. Once is enough, don't you think? Luckily, he had the ball in his hands, so he was forced to fall right on his back, which meant he didn't land on his arm. Still, he could've gotten a fracture or something worse, so we were SO grateful he only came out with a nasty open wound on his elbow. I'll spare you that picture. Thankfully, we still have my insurance from school, so we were able to go to the ER to get the stitches without an out of sight price. Too bad we weren't in Bmt. where my dad could've done it for free though. We'll be taking the stitches out in a few days, and it's off to the playoffs for basketball! =) I know I can't stop him, so why try? Here's James's elbow all stitched up, but it's not very clear. He has 4 very pretty electric blue stitches.

I happened to be videotaping that night, so we caught the action. My family wasn't very happy with that guy when they saw this video.

How rude! What a jerk. I would be mad too. At least they showed them by winning, but still. Not cool!
Glad to hear you guys are having fun though, and that James' injury wasn't more serious!
